Unmellow Yellow

My favorite color is not a concrete thing. In the last few years, it's hovered around gold, pink, and purple. But recently my eye is drawn to YELLOW. Not the mellow variety. It's bold, and I'm into that.

I've noted that yellow items in my clothing shop(s) have been selling well. I think yellow is a loud announcement that winter is over, and we're all so ready for that! I even want to paint stuff yellow right now, but I do wonder whether it would just seem ludicrous in the winter months and winter light?

Here are some images that have jumped out at me recently.

Paint Swatch: Turnip The Beet

Lately I have been gaga for this pink-red-purple color. I have jeans this color, I have a shirt this color, I have pillows this color, I even have a kitchen table in this color. I think of it as "beet," though the paint color at Home Depot was called "sangria" and I can imagine a host of other names, as it's a nice blend of several colors. Here's a little color moodboard I made (image credits here) for inspiration, followed by a little sneak peak of my kitchen.

Jonas's brother and sister-in-law gave us their old craft table, which we've found very useful as a dining room table since we've been married. But I recently got the bug to repaint all my dingy second-hand furniture - like ya do - and I couldn't get the idea of a pink dining table out of my head.

It still needs some coats on the legs and a sealing coat, but I like it better already. I found some beautiful dahlias at the farmer's market this afternoon which match perfectly, and I am all the more excited for them because they were the focal-point flowers in my wedding bouquet.

Would you ever paint your kitchen table a color? Which color would you choose?

Paint Swatch: Icicle & Neon Coral

My friend Jessa, who knows a thing or two about design trends, thinks that pastels will come back into style in home decorating after the jewel tones (which I whole-heartedly love) have worn themselves out. When we have to move some day (which I utterly dread), I think this pale grey-blue may be destined for some walls in my home. I call it "icicle" because it's not robin's egg, it's not grey, it's... like ice! I first started admiring it on the hallway walls in the show 666 Park Avenue. As for neon coral, I think the neon craze will be over by moving time, but I have been loving my pinks lately, and I can't imagine a day where I don't feel the urge to punch up any sophisticated corners of our abode with some wacky color accents. I'm trying to convince Jonas to let me spray-paint our one wooden dining chair this color. I made these two color story boards on Polyvore a while back (see here and here for product info), then realized I'd pinned this bedroom twice, and suddenly it seemed that I should share them together, rather than separately as I had previously planned. Also, I want those blue earrings and those pink shoes. Would you ever pair pastels and neon?

Chain Links 111310

  • A pretty fab blog, especially if you love orange.
  • "Dope" spray paint mural from start to finish (sped up) by a friend of a co-worker. Actually pretty incredible.
  • Poetically penned (by which I mean typed) definitions of made up words that I don't understand.
  • Me (or my work) on other people's blogs. :) 1. One of my wedding boards on a pink french blog. 2. Photo/recap taken by my friend Sarah (looking a bit frowny with my old braces under my closed lips ^^).
  • A geo-caching-esque treasure hunt for computer nerds. AWESOME.
  • I love sites with Flash and I love love lists. Kate Spade has both
  • Photographer Christopher Wilson catches and creates amazing moments
  • Yulia Brodskaya's incredible paper art. // Inspires me to keep working toward an art major & keep up my Christmas shopping.

Of Rainbows

As a kid, I was obsessed with monochromatic color schemes. I could not bare to color in my Famous Play Ballets coloring book in normal colors. Each picture was as much red-orange as I could make it or completely blue-black. I still love a well constructed outfit, painting or room that accentuates only one color, but if that's all I appreciated, it would be like focusing on a dandelion (not to rip on them; they are awesome) in a field filled with wild flowers. I love colors so much I think working for Pantone would be a dream job and I wish I could hop over to India for the Holi festival each year.  In honor of the full spectrum, take a look at these good things for the love of color.

and of course...

  • goddess Pantone herself (though to be honest, I have not explored this website yet).

Last but not least, this incredible video will brighten your day. I watched it and thought to myself, "this is what I want to do with my life."

The Birthday Zebra & Hippie Living

Today Jonas turns TWENTY! Happy Birthday, my love! //I don't blog a lot about our relationship because I do not wish to share the most precious things with any and everyone so you may not hear a lot about him or us and what we laugh about and what we love and the places we are going to see and the things we'll spend our lives adventuring, but he is always the one to hold my hand in times of both trouble and triumph. When there is joy in your life, you see the beauty in each nook and cranny and those diamonds in the rough is what this blog is for. // Babe, you are the best thing. Sweet like candy to my soul, sweet you rock and sweet you roll. [I will try and get a nice new picture of him soon].我爱你, je t'aime. // Here is a drawing I did on a package for him. :D
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am in the market for a room to live in in the Fullerton (Orange County, CA) area, hopefully around June 1st. Know anyone who wants to share? Wanna join me? // If I had a million bucks (or maybe just a hatchet) I would build or buy one or some of the following. {1. Elding Oscarson, 2. - 4. Emerson Merrick, 5. - 6. Vogue Jan 2010 & Purple Wedding

Wowie! So much going on, pretty much no time to write about it. I started back at Hardy the day after school ended, working 8 to 5 so I've been a tired girl. Today I went down to LA with the fam for church with my great grandma Peggy and then back to TO for Christmas dinner with extended family. // I bought Jan '10's (!!) Vogue and my Wired issue came too. Vogue was so worth the whopping 4 bucks for so few pages. It's an excellently styled issue. Is not Rachel McAdams about THE cutest lady you ever laid eyeballs upon? That's what I thought.

I have oodles of good things to share, just as soon as I have a bit of spare time. For now, here is my second published wedding inspiration board, as promised. I love plum purple and the drama of such a rich and moody color. I also love novelty wedding gowns. {click image to view full size}

Merry Christmas to you all, if I don't squeeze another post in before then!

I went to Starbucks last night with Jonas and not long after we'd gotten there, Alex, Alyssa and Tori came in too. The boys got into a no-blink staring contest which ended in a truce after neither had blinked for an hour (!!!), there were stinging tears running down their faces and the girls wanted to go home. I'm not quite sure what to say about it. // Tonight I am babysitting in place of my sister. I can't even remember the last time I babysat, so it should be interesting. // I had been working on a wedding inspiration board (collecting photos, that is) but when I went to try and put it together finally, I realized it would work better as two separate boards. So here is my debut blogged wedding inspiration board. Check back for the second installment later. :: The theme is breakfast in January & the colors are white, grey & robin's egg blue.

WINTER WONDERLAND ~ in photos. :) I have to create this vibe visually since California never looks like this. ^^ {1. via Style Me Pretty 2. & 3. Patrick Demarchelier}

4. I've been waiting for a while to blog about this band because it wasn't wintery enough to show the poster. :j It's a little punk rock, or something, but I especially like the song "Lips Like Morphine." You can listen to it here. I hope I can fit in a concert when I'm in SF for Christmas. It seems like all the good bands play there or LA. Know of anyone who will be playing from the 24th to 28th?

5. A pink church?! {Erik Ekroth} A. From my favorite Christmas Album of all time. Thank you, Sarah McLachlan. 6. Some holiday glam I put together on Polyvore.

Tada! Here is my fool-proof guide to buying your sister/girlfriend/girl-friend a Christmas gift for $35 or less (with a few exceptions that are just pretty). I really am not so confident about buying gifts for guys so I'm afraid that is not part of the package until I am illuminated by inspirational lightning. In general, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21 & Anthropologie (shop the sales) are your best friends. I'm also a fan of Pier 1. Style staples: hair accessories, tights, cardigans & pencil skirts. Having said that, here are some of my favorite picks from "shopping" around. L2R: 1. Pale Blue Cardigan (Forever 21, $24.90) 2. "[] I Met and Liked" Journal Series - something for everyone, seriously (Archie Grand, ~ $16) 3. Sparkly Hair Pins (Forever 21, $7.80) 4. "Kimono and the Colors of Japan" by Katsumi Yumioka (Amazon, ~ $30) 5. Mint Candy Apple Nail Polish (Essie, $8) 6. Elephant Tea Pot (Pier 1, $15.95).

And some more... L2R: 1. Rabbit Ring (Urban Outfitters, ~ $34) 2. Doll Chair Jewelry-Holding-Sculpture (Urban Outfitters, ~$80?) 3. Retro Phone (Urban Outfitters, ~$90?) 4. Vintage French Notebooks (Urban Outfitters, $16).

Ok, and 3 more that didn't cooperate with my collage making. 1. Woodstock Harmonica Necklace - it really works! (Les Jumelles Boutique, 22EU) 2. Indian Spices Set - Small (Purpose Design, $15) 3. Original Art Work! - this drawing was done by my friend Kelee. Isn't it great?! I love it.

I just finished watching Up with my fam. It's so sad in places. :( But also nice. And also cute. And also funny. It made me think that cities would be completely shiny without those charming old houses in the middle of no where if it weren't for grumpy hard-headed people.

I shall attempt to go to school tomorrow. Wish me luck! [FBers, click for blog]
